The Band - Karpe
One Muslim and one Hindu dedicating their lives to Norwegian rap. Who would have thought they´d become the identity and voice of the new generation and the new world?
Karpe knows how to be ahead, how to provoke, how to participate and how to unite. With their plainspoken lyrics and their honest and critical comments on society they have proven that different is good.
From playing at the local youth clubs in their teens to where they are now, sold-out arenas, several awards and performances during the Nobel Peace-price ceremony, Magdi Omar Ytreeide Abdelmaguid og Chirag Rashmikant Patel — and their music — has gone through a journey, and their story about marginalization and exclusion has captured the majority and become mainstream.
Karpe are now by far the biggest rap artists, if not the biggest band, in Norway. In their latest project ”Heisann Montebello” (2017), they released each song with its own music video, and revolutionized the way music is launched and consumed. “Heisann Montebello” is a solid musical and visual concept with each song entering top 10 on Spotify, and each music video creating debate and controversy.
- It is no coincidence that their music is featured in all seasons of the highly renowned and innovative TV-series SKAM.
The group won P3-Gold for best live-performance in 2016 and repeated the same win in 2017. They also won the Norwegian Grammy for Best Album and Best Urban for «Heisann Montbello».
